A total of 5,822 illegal attempts to cross the border have been recorded in Lithuania in 2022.<\/p>\n<p> The Polish Border Guard <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Straz_Graniczna\/status\/1566679580412362754\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">tweeted<\/a> that 29 nationals of Benin, Cameroon, Liberia, Mali, and Togo tried to illegally cross the border from Belarus. The foreigners had Russian visas.<\/p>\n<p> The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border dates back to the spring of 2021. It escalated on November 8, 2021, when thousands of migrants set up a camp near the Polish border. The Baltic states and Poland accused Belarusian authorities of creating the trouble at the border, while the latter blamed it on the West.<\/p>\n<p> Migration figures had dropped significantly by the time Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, but have risen more recently.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>September 5, BPN.
