{"id":43625,"date":"2022-09-06T13:13:09","date_gmt":"2022-09-06T10:13:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/articles\/trade-union-activist-sentenced-to-three-years-in-lukasenka-libel-case\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","slug":"trade-union-activist-sentenced-to-three-years-in-lukasenka-libel-case","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/43625\/","title":{"rendered":"Trade union activist sentenced to three years in \u0141uka\u0161enka libel case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n <b>September 6, <span>BPN<\/span>.<\/b> Judge Ta\u0107ciana \u0160ocik of the Leninski District Court in Minsk has sentenced Ihar Lednik, 61, a member of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada) and trade union activist, to three years in prison on charges of defaming Alaksandr \u0141uka\u0161enka, the Viasna Human Rights Centre reported.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The charge stemmed from an article containing &#8220;deliberately false, disgraceful and humiliating information about the head of state, accusing him of particularly serious crimes, including against the security of mankind,&#8221; the prosecutor said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The activist was arrested on April 18 in a crackdown on independent trade unions. He was first jailed for 15 days, and later confronted with criminal charges.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Human rights activists say his persecution is politically motivated.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The man has a disability due to his heart condition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>September 6, BPN.
