Pavie\u0142 \u0160pietny, Mikita Draniec, and Alaksandr Ka\u017alanka were given six years each; Andrej Mara\u010d and Dani\u0142a \u010cul, five years each.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t A court in Minsk sentenced trade union activist Ihar Lednik, 61, to three years in prison for publishing an article allegedly containing &#8220;deliberately false, disgraceful and humiliating information&#8221; about Alaksandr \u0141uka\u0161enka.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The Baranavi\u010dy District Court sentenced powerlifter U\u0142adzimir Branavicki to one year in prison on charges of hooliganism for hanging out &#8220;protest symbols.&#8221; Human rights defenders declared him a political prisoner.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Mikita \u015alepianok, who administered the culture and history channel Rezystans on Telegram, was sentenced to three years in prison for creating an &#8220;extremist&#8221; group.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The <span>BelaPAN<\/span> trial will resume on September 12 after a break of over two months, BPN reported.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n <b>Arrests and releases<\/b>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t At least 13 people, including a diplomat and family members of the defendants, were arrested near the Minsk City Court after the Rabkova trial. Most of them were released on the same day except for Danii\u0142 Kra\u0161e\u016dski and human rights defender Anastasija \u0141ojka, Viasna and <span>Na\u0161a Niva<\/span> reported.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Rock musician Viktar \u017darkievi\u010d was arrested in Minsk. In a video posted by the police, he is handcuffed and forced to hold a fridge door with protest stickers and national symbols in his hands.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t A resident of Lida, Hrodna region, was arrested for subscription to a banned Telegram chat and calling for protests, pro-government Telegram channels reported.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Alaksiej Zikieje\u016d and Safija Ma\u0142a\u0161evi\u010d, imprisoned on politically-motivated charges, have served out full terms and were released, human rights groups reported.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t U\u0142adzimir Celiapun, a human rights defender from Mazyr, Homiel region, was jailed for 10 days for disseminating calls to extremism, Viasna reported.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n <b>Detention conditions<\/b>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Alaksiej Ivan\u010dyka\u016d, an opposition activist serving two and a half years in a Mahilou prison on politically-motivated charges for alleged violence or threat of violence against a policeman, was denied the right to receive parcels and transferred to a stricter regime, Viasna said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n <b>Other cases of persecution<\/b>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Authorities have issued a freeze order as they prepare to seize the Minsk apartment of the Belarusian opposition leader Sviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja and her husband, Siarhiej Cichano\u016dski, blogger and former presidential hopeful now serving a lengthy prison term, Cichano\u016dskaja said in her Telegram channel.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t As of September 7, human rights defenders identified at least 1,322 people persecuted on clearly political grounds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>September 7, BPN.
