Since the start of 2022, Lithuania has recorded a total of 7,389 illegal attempts to cross the border.<\/p>\n<p> The Polish Border Guard <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Straz_Graniczna\/status\/1572831804100608000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">tweeted<\/a> that 61 foreigners tried to illegally cross the border from Belarus in the past 24 hours. Border guards arrested two Russians carrying eight illegal migrants from Egypt and Syria.<\/p>\n<p> The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border dates back to the spring of 2021. It escalated on November 8, 2021, when thousands of migrants set up a camp near the Polish border. The Baltic states and Poland accused Belarusian authorities of creating the trouble at the border, while the latter blamed it on the West.<\/p>\n<p> Migration figures had dropped significantly by the time Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, but have risen more recently.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>September 22, BPN.
