{"id":44417,"date":"2022-11-09T13:41:14","date_gmt":"2022-11-09T10:41:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/articles\/ten-labor-movement-activists-on-trial-in-homiel\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","slug":"ten-labor-movement-activists-on-trial-in-homiel","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/44417\/","title":{"rendered":"Ten Labor Movement activists on trial in Homiel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n <b>November 9, <span>BPN<\/span>. <\/b>The trial of Rabo\u010dy Ruch (Labor Movement) activists has opened at the Homiel Regional Court, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Andrej Pahiery\u0142a, U\u0142adzimir \u017dura\u016dka, Siarhiej \u0160elest, Hanna Ab\u0142ab, Alaksandr Ha\u0161nika\u016d, Siarhiej Dziuba, Ihar Minc, Valancin Cieranievi\u010d, Siarhiej \u0160amietka, and Alaksandr Kap\u0161ul face charges of slander, high treason, creating an extremist group and illegal actions with firearms.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Judge Alakandr Piskuno\u016d presides over the trial, which is open to the public.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Authorities accuse the activists of illegally collecting confidential information on how Belarusian state-run businesses circumvent Western sanctions. They also say defendants passed that&nbsp;information to foreign countries and organizations, including the secret services of the USA and Lithuania.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Some of the defendants were accused of planning subversive acts at the Hrodna Azot nitrogen fertilizer plant and the Belarusian Steel Works (BMZ).\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Human rights groups dismissed the&nbsp;charges as&nbsp;politically motivated.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The Rabo\u010dhy Ruch was established after the disputed 2020 presidential election as an association to defend worker rights and freedoms.
