October 12, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Belarusian government’s activity in the field of “recuperation and recovery of children from areas affected by the armed conflict in Ukraine” is of a “purely voluntary and open nature,” said Kiry\u0142 Hru\u0161e\u016dski, Belarus’ deputy permanent delegate to UNESCO, at the meeting of the UN agency’s executive board in Paris on October 10, according to the Belarusian embassy in France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian delegation expressed concern about “the growing politicization of UNESCO and attempts by some countries to use the organization’s platform to discuss issues outside its competence.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian diplomat welcomed the September decision of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, which, according to the embassy, expressed “extreme concern about the construction of a border barrier by Poland in the Bie\u0142avie\u017ea Forest” and called for “urgently inviting a mission of experts to the site to assess the negative impact of the fence.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, Hru\u0161e\u016dski said that one of the factors undermining global food security is “the illegal use of unilateral coercive measures by Western countries against Belarus,” including Lithuania’s blocking of access to the sea for Belarusian potash fertilizers, which the Belarusian side says violates the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and other international documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and his children’s rights commissioner, Maria Lvova-Belova, over alleged deportations of children from the occupied territories of Ukraine.
