September 8,\u00a0Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0The Belarusian government has drafted a bill to suspend its commitments under the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) with regard to Poland and the Czech Republic. It has submitted the bill to the House of Representatives for discussion but has not published its full text.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Signed in the last years of the Cold War, the CFE Treaty is designed to ensure transparency of conventional weapons and armed forces in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Russia withdrew from it in 2023, citing a confrontation with the West. Belarus remains a party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four days ago, Valeryj Ravienka, a senior Belarusian defense official, accused Poland of deliberately violating the CFE Treaty with regard to Belarus. Warsaw “does not provide information on its military forces, ignores proposals to resume the dialogue in the field of arms control and accuses Belarusian Side of destabilizing the situation in the region,” he wrote on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In April, Minsk accused Warsaw of intentions to hide information about its armed forces citing Poland’s decision to suspend cooperation with Belarus under the CFE Treaty over Minsk’s complicity in Russia’s war on Ukraine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
