September 8,\u00a0Pozirk<\/em>.\u00a0<\/strong>Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja urged Western diplomats to provide all possible assistance to Belarusians abroad who may face difficulties over the recent consular services ban, her press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ambassadors and special envoys from Canada, Estonia, Finland, Ireland, Lithuania, Poland and the United States attended the briefing with Cichano\u016dskaja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She asked them to recognize expired Belarusian passports, extend the validity of residence permits, and lift the requirement for certain certificates that can be obtained only in Belarus by Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s Edict No 278. It bans consular and notary services to Belarusians abroad and came into force on September 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusians who are fleeing from politically-motivated persecution should be able to enter the European Union should it opt for sealing its shared borders with Belarus, the politician added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The opposition leader also invited Western countries to attend several Belarus-related events during the UN General Assembly session that opens on September 19.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
