{"id":44992,"date":"2022-12-20T18:16:07","date_gmt":"2022-12-20T15:16:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/articles\/ukraine-belarus-hosts-enough-russian-forces-to-be-a-threat\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","slug":"ukraine-belarus-hosts-enough-russian-forces-to-be-a-threat","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/44992\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukraine: Belarus hosts enough Russian forces to be a threat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>December 20, <span>BPN.<\/span><\/b> Ukraine\u2019s joint forces commander Serhiy Nayev says Belarus has accumulated enough Russian ground forces, aircraft and missile systems to pose a threat to his country.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cRussian spotting aircraft and interceptors carrying the Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missiles train in the airspace over Belarus,\u201d he said (quotes rendered from Russian).<\/p>\n<p> \u201cThe sole purpose of the training and exercises is to clarify targets in Ukraine to be struck by the aggressor\u2019s missiles,\u201d he said. \u201cAccordingly, we are taking all measures to reduce the threat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> The lieutenant general went on to say that Ukraine \u201cis closely monitoring the transfer of weapons from the territory of Russia, analyzing the situation on a daily basis.\u201d He said Belarus is now home to the 2nd Motorized Rifle Division of the Russian Armed Forces\u2019 1st Tank Army, as well as to an aviation group that \u201cincludes the newest aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> Belarus also hosts the Iskander ballistic missile systems that can be used against targets in Ukraine, Nayev added. In the event of a \u201cserious increase in forces and means on the Belarusian side,\u201d the Ukrainian Armed Forces\u2019 General Staff can significantly expand groups in this area, he concluded.<\/p>\n<p> On October 15, the defense ministry in Minsk said that first trains carrying Russian troops as part of the joint regional group of forces arrived in Belarus. The regional group was formed to enhance Union State border security, it said. \u201cThis decision was dictated by ongoing activity in the border areas,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>On February 24, Russia launched a full-scale war against the Ukrainian people. The authorities in Minsk deny that Belarusian troops participate in hostilities. At the same time, the territory of Belarus was actively used by the Russians to attack Ukraine at the outset of the invasion and in later periods.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>December 20, BPN.
