{"id":4515,"date":"2023-09-08T21:05:00","date_gmt":"2023-09-08T18:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/?post_type=articles&#038;p=4515"},"modified":"2026-03-10T12:05:06","modified_gmt":"2026-03-10T12:05:06","slug":"belarusian-foreign-ministry-rejects-western-criticism-of-passport-edict","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/4515\/","title":{"rendered":"Belarusian foreign ministry rejects Western criticism of passport edict"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>September 8,\u00a0<em>Pozirk.<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>A spokesman for the Belarusian foreign ministry has dismissed as cynical the West&#8217;s criticism of the country&#8217;s new law banning exiled Belarusians from renewing their passports at diplomatic missions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The edict, issued by authoritarian ruler Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, makes it possible to apply for new IDs only inside the country, where \u00e9migr\u00e9s can face reprisals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The European Union denounced it as another step against those forced to flee persecution and intimidation, and the United States said it affects thousands of Belarusians abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We have not asked them for legal expertise on our laws,&#8221; the foreign ministry&#8217;s website quoted spokesman Anatol H\u0142az as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He accused the United States of being&nbsp;the world&#8217;s champion&nbsp;in terms of draconian legislation, claiming that supporters of former President Donald Trump are being beaten in solitary confinement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Our counterparts alleged that the law harms thousands of Belarusians, but slyly omitted the damage they inflicted on millions of our compatriots with their actions,&#8221; he said, referring to sectoral sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also said that it is extremely difficult for Belarusians to receive US and Schengen visas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nevertheless, he said, Minsk is ready for respectful dialogue.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>September 8,\u00a0Pozirk.\u00a0A spokesman for the Belarusian foreign ministry has dismissed as cynical the West&#8217;s criticism of the country&#8217;s new law banning exiled Belarusians from renewing their passports at diplomatic missions.
