{"id":45157,"date":"2023-01-02T16:16:09","date_gmt":"2023-01-02T13:16:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/articles\/tut-by-journalists-to-go-on-trial-on-january-9\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","slug":"tut-by-journalists-to-go-on-trial-on-january-9","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/45157\/","title":{"rendered":"Tut.by journalists to go on trial on January 9"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n <b>January 2, <span>BPN<\/span>.<\/b> The trial of Tut By Media\u2019s employees will start on January 9 at the Minsk City Court and will be closed to the public, the court schedule said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The Prosecutor General&#8217;s Office listed CEO Ludmi\u0142a \u010cekina, editor-in-chief Maryna Zo\u0142atava, politics and economy editor Volha \u0141ojka, journalist Alena Ta\u0142ka\u010dova and legal adviser Kaciaryna Tka\u010denka as defendants.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Authorities accuse \u010cekina, Zo\u0142atava, \u0141ojka and Ta\u0142ka\u010dova of tax evasion, inciting hatred and calling for sanctions. Tka\u010denka is charged with participation in protests.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Tut By Media ran <span>Tut.by<\/span>, Belarus\u2019 most popular news portal.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Authorities arrested 15 <span>Tut.by<\/span> employees in May 2021. All except \u010cekina and Zo\u0142atava were released from custody after agreeing to cooperate with investigators, according to the Investigative Committee.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t One exception is Darja Dani\u0142ava, sentenced to 16 months in prison and released in the courtroom, as she had spent about as much time in jail pending trial.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Tut.by journalists left Belarus in July 2021 to launch <span>Zerkalo.io<\/span>, a news website that largely follows in the footsteps of the original media outlet. Belarus and Russia have blocked access to the website. On top of that, Belarus declared it extremist content.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t On June 14, 2022, the Minsk Economic Court designated Tut By Media as an extremist organization, banning its activities in Belarus.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t In October, the Committee for State Security (KGB) added Zo\u0142atava, \u010cekina, \u0141ojka and Ta\u0142ka\u010dova to its list of &#8220;individuals and entities involved in terrorist activities.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>January 2, BPN.
