{"id":45167,"date":"2023-01-03T13:34:23","date_gmt":"2023-01-03T10:34:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/articles\/business-monthlys-director-over-seven-months-behind-bars-without-charges\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","slug":"business-monthlys-director-over-seven-months-behind-bars-without-charges","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/45167\/","title":{"rendered":"Business monthly\u2019s director over seven months behind bars without charges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t<b>January 3, <span>BPN<\/span>. <\/b>Law enforcers have not yet charged Kanstancin Za\u0142atych, director of the newspaper <span>Belorusy i Rynok<\/span> held in custody for over seven months, the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) said citing his wife Natalla Za\u0142atych.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Her husband is holding up well, she said citing his lawyer, and added that he might go on trial in January or in February. &#8220;I hope that at least at the beginning of the year they will be able to say what they want from him,&#8221; the she said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The Committee for State Security (KGB) arrested Za\u0142atych in May 2022 along with editor in chief Andrej Aleksandrovi\u010d and accountant Julija Kachno.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Authorities freed Aleksandrovi\u010d and Kachno later that day, while Za\u0142atych was placed in pre-trial detention. Human rights groups declared him a political prisoner.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t On July 23, the Ministry of Information blocked access to the newspaper\u2019s website because of the alleged links to content blacklisted as extremist and unblocked it only in late December.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t On December 6, <span>Belorusy i Rynok<\/span> managers said the monthly suspended publication until at least the second half of 2023.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n <span>Belorusy i Rynok<\/span> was founded in December 1990 as the <span>Belorusskiy Rynok<\/span> weekly. It was renamed in September 2005, after Alaksandr \u0141uka\u0161enka had prohibited private entities from using the words \u201cnational\u201d and \u201cBelarusian\u201d (Belorusskiy).
