{"id":45205,"date":"2023-01-05T18:00:59","date_gmt":"2023-01-05T15:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/articles\/new-bill-to-make-life-harder-for-political-groups-viasna\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","slug":"new-bill-to-make-life-harder-for-political-groups-viasna","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/45205\/","title":{"rendered":"New bill to make life harder for political groups \u2013 Viasna"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>January 5, <span>BPN.<\/span><\/b> The Viasna Human Rights Center says a <a href=\"https:\/\/pravo.by\/document\/?guid=3941&amp;p0=2022086001\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">bill on political parties and public associations<\/a> will significantly damage the environment in which Belarusian political groups operate.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cAhead of the New Year, the Belarusian government has submitted to Parliament a bill amending the laws \u2018On Public Associations\u2019 and \u2018On Political Parties,\u2019\u201d Viasna <a href=\"https:\/\/spring96.org\/be\/news\/110336\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">said<\/a> on its website on January 5.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cThis bill significantly complicates the environment in which political parties exist. In particular, it requires that they re-register. For public associations, it introduces some positive technicalities as well as new negative provisos (without demanding that all public associations re-register, though),\u201d it added. <\/p>\n<p> The bill, if signed by Alaksandr \u0141uka\u0161enka, would prohibit emigrants from joining parties. In order to be registered, a party would have to have 5,000 members, branches in all provinces, and local branches in a third of the districts of each province and Minsk.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cOf the 15 parties registered in Belarus, only the two [pro-government] parties meet this criterion,&nbsp;the Communist Party of Belarus and the Republican Party of Labor and Justice,\u201d Viasna said. <\/p>\n<p>The bill would also expand restrictions on political party funding.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>January 5, BPN.
