They should not be behind bars for humanitarian reasons. Free these people and show us that you are actually ready to \u2018take a step forward,\u2019\u201d Harbunova said, as quoted by the opposition cabinet\u2019s press office.<\/p>\n<p> The politician recalled that \u201chundreds of people wrote letters for pardon \u2013 and this is a difficult moral choice \u2013 and only a few were released; even requests from people with disabilities and elderly people have been&nbsp;ignored.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> In spite of the authorities\u2019 declared willingness to \u201clet former protesters into the country,\u201d the reality is that \u201cmany people are being detained at&nbsp;the border with Belarus on far-fetched charges,\u201d Harbunova said.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cSo far, we see that the regime says exactly the opposite of what it does in the dark corner. At the same time, it tries to look like a benefactor, like it always does,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p> Following a meeting with Alaksandr \u0141uka\u0161enka on January 24, Prosecutor General Andrej \u0160vied said \u201ca fundamental decision has been made\u201d to create an interagency commission that will deal with political emigrants wishing to return to Belarus.<\/p>\n<p> A source told <span>BPN<\/span> that at a briefing for EU diplomats in Warsaw on the same day, head of the opposition cabinet \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja urged international organizations to push for the release of 150 political prisoners requiring immediate medical attention.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>January 24, BPN.
