He might face criminal charges for online comments about Alaksandr \u0141uka\u0161enka.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Authorities released Maryna Ka\u0142askova after she had served seven months in prison for allegedly insulting a public official, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t New criminal cases\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Authorities accused Mika\u0142aj \u010carnavus Jr. from Baranavi\u010dy, Brest region, of insulting \u0141uka\u0161enka, Viasna said. Since February 7 he has been serving a 15-day jail term for distributing opposition content.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Criminal proceedings\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The Hrodna Regional Court sentenced reporter and Polish minority activist Andrzej Poczobut (Andrej Pa\u010dobut)&nbsp;to eight years in prison after finding him guilty of inciting hatred and calling for sanctions, <span>BPN<\/span> reported.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The Homiel Regional Court sentenced Siarhiej Pla\u0161kun and Juryj Selvi\u010d to 16 and 14 years in prison, respectively, over alleged intentions to damage railroad equipment in protest against Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine, Viasna said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t A court in Minsk sentenced history teacher Siarhiej Koze\u0142 to three years of restricted freedom in home confinement for alleged participation in protests.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Other instances of persecution\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The Supreme Court rejected an appeal by Kry\u015bcina \u010carankova, sentenced to two and a half years in prison for social media comments allegedly inciting hatred.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t On February 9, a court in Minsk will hear an appeal by ten defendants against authorities&#8217; decision to blacklist Rabo\u010dy Ruch (Workers&#8217; Movement) as an extremist group, a Telegram channel monitoring politically-motivated cases in the Hrodna region said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t As of February 9, human rights defenders identified at least 1,448 political prisoners.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>February 9, BPN.
