{"id":45731,"date":"2023-02-16T13:45:14","date_gmt":"2023-02-16T10:45:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/articles\/lukasenka-says-he-can-field-half-a-million-troops-in-case-of-war\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","slug":"lukasenka-says-he-can-field-half-a-million-troops-in-case-of-war","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/45731\/","title":{"rendered":"\u0141uka\u0161enka says he can field half a million troops in case of war"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n <b>February 16, <span>BPN<\/span>.<\/b>&nbsp;The Belarusian army can increase its force from 75,000 to 500,000 in case of war, Alaksandr \u0141uka\u0161enka has told foreign journalists in Minsk.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t He blamed the West for pushing Belarus into Russia&#8217;s war on Ukraine to allegedly &#8220;stretch the front by additional 2,500 kilometers and complicate the situation for Russian and Belarusian troops.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t &#8220;We won&#8217;t give you that chance,&#8221; \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s press office quoted him as saying. &#8220;But if only you dare to step on our soil, the answer will be dire. The Westerners know exactly what [it will be] and with what weapons.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t \u0141uka\u0161enka stressed the need to negotiate peace before &#8220;this aggression escalates.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Not a single Belarusian soldier is involved in the war today, he said. &#8220;I don&#8217;t send people there and I&#8217;m not going to do it,&#8221; he added.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine. \u0141uka\u0161enka admitted that Belarus participated in Russia&#8217;s war on Ukraine, but said it was &#8220;not killing anyone.&#8221; A 20,000-strong grouping of Russian forces crossed into Ukraine from Belarus at the outset of the war. Russian troops retreated from northern Ukraine later.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Authorities in Minsk denied Belarusian army troops\u2019 involvement in combat operations on the Russian side.
