{"id":45844,"date":"2023-02-24T14:16:02","date_gmt":"2023-02-24T11:16:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/articles\/belarus-to-have-no-more-than-four-parties-justice-minister\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","slug":"belarus-to-have-no-more-than-four-parties-justice-minister","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/45844\/","title":{"rendered":"Belarus to have no more than four parties \u2013 justice minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n <b>February 24, <span>BPN<\/span>.<\/b> The number of political parties in Belarus will drop from fifteen to three or four after re-registration, Siarhiej Chamienka, justice minister, told <span>ONT<\/span> TV channel.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Only parties that &#8220;really enjoy credibility with citizens&#8221; and have a program that allows them &#8220;to develop along with our state in various fields&#8221; will be allowed to function, he said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Parties should support the constitutional order and cannot promote terrorism or extremism or undermine Belarusian society, the official stressed.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Authorities have routinely used extremism and terrorism charges to persecute and silence government critics.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t On February 14, Alaksandr \u0141uka\u0161enka approved amendments to laws governing political parties, raising the minimum membership required to register a political party from 1,000 to 5,000. Parties have six months to complete the new registration procedures.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Human rights groups and the opposition fear that Belarus\u2019 opposition parties will be outlawed as a result of the re-registration campaign.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t After the amendments took effect, Bie\u0142aja Ru\u015b, the largest pro-government public association, set about to establish a party.
