{"id":45912,"date":"2023-03-01T15:33:53","date_gmt":"2023-03-01T12:33:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/articles\/supreme-court-shortens-activists-lengthy-sentences-by-three-months\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","slug":"supreme-court-shortens-activists-lengthy-sentences-by-three-months","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/45912\/","title":{"rendered":"Supreme Court shortens activists\u2019 lengthy sentences by three months"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n <b>March 1, <span>BPN<\/span>.<\/b> The Supreme Court has reduced the lengthy prison sentences of four opposition activists, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Judge Alaksiej Rybako\u016d ordered the terms of human rights defenders Marfa Rabkova and Andrej \u010capiuk and activists Alaksandr Franckievi\u010d and Akichira Haje\u016dski-Chanada by three months, but rejected appeals by the other defendants in the case.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t In September 2022, the Minsk City Court sentenced Rabkova, Viasna volunteers\u2019 coordinator, to 15 years in prison, and Andrej \u010capiuk, a volunteer, to six years.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The judge handed down 17 years on Franckievi\u010d, 16 years on Haje\u016dski-Chanada, 12 years on Alaksiej Ha\u0142a\u016dko, six years on Pavie\u0142 \u0160pietny, Mikita Draniec and Alaksandr Ka\u017alanka, and five years on Andrej Mara\u010d and Dani\u0142a \u010cul.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The activists were tried behind closed doors on charges widely seen as politically motivated, ranging from setting up an extremist organization to rioting.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Rabkova has been in custody since her arrest in September 2020. The Investigative Committee said she and two others headed \u201ca number of organized crime groups that had independently-led cells in Belarus\u2019 regions.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>March 1, BPN.
