March 1, BPN.<\/span><\/b> Belarus has allowed visa-free entry for Polish citizens at all border crossings with the European Union, the State Border Committee\u2019s press office said on March 1.<\/p>\n

\u201cGiven the high demand for the Belarusian visa waiver program, the country\u2019s leadership has decided to allow visa-free entry for Polish citizens at all Belarusian checkpoints on the border with the EU,\u201d it said in a press release. <\/p>\n

The new rule will be valid from March 2 to December 31.<\/p>\n

Previously, Polish citizens could only enter Belarus without visas from their country.<\/p>\n

On December 21, Alaksandr \u0141uka\u0161enka extended Belarus\u2019 visa waiver program for citizens of Lithuania, Latvia and Poland for 2023.<\/p>\n

It was declared that the decision was taken \u201cto confirm the openness\u201d of the republic and its focus on \u201cgood neighborliness and stronger international relations.\u201d<\/p>\n

The authorities of the neighboring countries called on their compatriots not to visit Belarus for security reasons.<\/p>\n

On February 10, Poland closed the key Bobrowniki border checkpoint until further notice. Interior minister Mariusz Kami\u0144ski argued that it was \u201can important matter of national security.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Belarusian foreign ministry protested to Marcin Wojciechowski, the Polish charg\u00e9 d\u2019affaires, against Poland\u2019s action. The diplomat was told that this \u201ctotally unacceptable\u201d step exacerbated the \u201cdifficult\u201d situation on the Belarusian-Polish border and violated \u201cthe rights of thousands of citizens of Belarus, Poland and many other countries.\u201d The ministry underscored \u201ccounterproductivity of any attempts to put pressure on Belarus.\u201d Warsaw took this step after a Belarusian court sentenced a reporter of Polish origin, Andrzej Poczobut, to eight years in prison on charges widely believed to be politically motivated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
