{"id":46433,"date":"2023-04-09T21:35:14","date_gmt":"2023-04-09T18:35:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/articles\/political-prisoner-with-mental-disability-mother-leave-belarus\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","slug":"political-prisoner-with-mental-disability-mother-leave-belarus","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/46433\/","title":{"rendered":"Political prisoner with mental disability, mother leave Belarus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>April 9, <span>BPN.<\/span><\/b> D\u017amitryj Hopta, 23, a resident of \u017d\u0142obin, Homiel region, and his mother have fled Belarus, volunteer Illa Mirona\u016d said on Facebook.<\/p>\n<p> It is unclear in what country they are based.<\/p>\n<p> On December 31, the young man with a mental disability was freed from the Viciebsk region\u2019s Penal Colony No. 3.<\/p>\n<p> On February 5, 2021 the \u017dlobin District Court sentenced Hopta to two years&#8217; imprisonment, finding him guilty of grossly disturbing public order and threatening violence against police. Prosecutors claimed that Hopta &#8220;participated in an unauthorized rally, threw stones towards policemen and police vans&#8221; near the \u017dlobin Palace of Culture on August 10, 2020.<\/p>\n<p> The charges based on Hopta\u2019s &#8220;confessions.&#8221; The policemen, who testified as victims, said that they had not suffered any injuries. No videos or pictures to support the charges were shown in court.<\/p>\n<p> Hopta was allowed to stay at home during the preliminary investigation and trial. He was taken into custody after judge Iryna Pradun passed the sentence.<\/p>\n<p> Human rights defenders said his persecution was politically-motivated<\/p>\n<p> Volha Hopta told reporters that her son suffered from a mental disorder, diagnosed as F70.1 (&#8220;a significant behavioral disorder requiring care and treatment,&#8221; according to the International Classification of Diseases).<\/p>\n<p>In early 2022, the mother said D\u017amitryj Hopta has been denied a pardon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>April 9, BPN.
