{"id":46524,"date":"2023-04-15T17:07:13","date_gmt":"2023-04-15T14:07:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/articles\/illegal-belarus-eu-border-crossings-soar-to-212-in-24-hours\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","slug":"illegal-belarus-eu-border-crossings-soar-to-212-in-24-hours","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/46524\/","title":{"rendered":"Illegal Belarus-EU border crossings soar to 212 in 24 hours"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t<b>April 15, <span>BPN<\/span>.<\/b> The EU has not allowed 212 migrants to enter illegally from Belarus over the past day.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The Lithuanian State Border Guard Service <a href=\"https:\/\/vsat.lrv.lt\/lt\/naujienos\/neileistu-neteisetu-migrantu-statistika\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">reported<\/a> that it turned away 10 migrants in the Lithuanian-Belarusian border area on April 14, while their Latvian colleagues thwarted 43 attempts.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The Polish Border Guard <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Straz_Graniczna\/status\/1647119675204018180?cxt=HHwWiIC98cSn39stAAAA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">said<\/a> that 159 foreigners, including nationals of India, Sudan, Syria and Pakistan, tried to illegally cross the border from Belarus.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Since the start of 2023, the EU has recorded a total of 8,972 attempts by illegal migrants to enter its territory, with 6,551 attempts via Poland, 1,626 via Latvia and 795 via Lithuania.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Border crossing attempts rose from 1,989 in January to 2,034 in February and 3,401 in March.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border dates back to the spring of 2021. It escalated in November 2021 when thousands of migrants set up a camp near the Polish border. The Baltic states and Poland accused Belarusian authorities of creating the trouble, while the latter blamed it on the West.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Migration figures had dropped significantly by the time Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, but have risen more recently.
