{"id":46963,"date":"2023-05-23T22:14:34","date_gmt":"2023-05-23T19:14:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/articles\/minsk-vows-to-support-nuclear-nonproliferation\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","slug":"minsk-vows-to-support-nuclear-nonproliferation","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/46963\/","title":{"rendered":"Minsk vows to support nuclear nonproliferation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>May 23, <span>BPN.<\/span><\/b>&nbsp;Minsk&nbsp;said it will back global efforts to stop the spread of nuclear weapons and ban nuclear tests, according to a Facebook post by the Belarusian foreign ministry.<\/p>\n<p> The post outlined the country\u2019s priorities as a candidate for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council in 2024-2025.<\/p>\n<p> Belarus also said it will promote dialogue and trust among world powers on security issues, support peaceful solutions to conflicts and crises, and encourage cooperation between regional groups and alliances.<\/p>\n<p> Belarus is a non-nuclear state. It joined the Treaty on the Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and gave up its Soviet-era nukes in the 1990s.<\/p>\n<p> In March, Vladimir Putin announced that Russia was planning to deploy nuclear weapons in Belarus, pointing to the United States having them in several partner countries.<\/p>\n<p>One week ago, Belarus\u2019 envoy to the United Nations said that his country had not taken any practical steps to host tactical nuclear weapons on its territory.
