{"id":47141,"date":"2023-06-06T11:14:16","date_gmt":"2023-06-06T08:14:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/articles\/extradited-activist-gets-12-years-in-prison-on-terrorism-related-charges\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","slug":"extradited-activist-gets-12-years-in-prison-on-terrorism-related-charges","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/47141\/","title":{"rendered":"Extradited activist gets 12 years in prison on terrorism-related charges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n <b>June 6, <span>BPN<\/span>.<\/b> The Minsk City Court has sentenced opposition activist Jana Pin\u010duk to 12 years in prison following her extradition from Russia to Belarus, the Viasna Human Rights Center reports.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Judge Ta\u0107ciana Falko\u016dskaja, known for passing politically motivated sentences, presided over the closed trial.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Authorities accused the activist of establishing a terrorist organization, staging riots, inciting hatred, calling for overthrowing the government and heading an extremist group.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The Prosecutor General\u2019s Office said earlier that Pin\u010duk allegedly set up the Telegram channel called <span>Viciebsk 97%<\/span> between September 2020 and November 2021. In July 2022, the interior ministry blacklisted it as extremist.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Pin\u010duk, a Belarusian national who lived in Russia, was arrested in St Petersburg in November 2021.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t In March 2022, the Russian Prosecutor General\u2019s Office ordered her extradition to Belarus. Four months later, the St Petersburg City Court upheld that ruling despite the UN Human Rights Committee\u2019s ban on the extradition.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Human rights groups say Pin\u010duk\u2019s persecution is politically motivated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>June 6, BPN.
