{"id":47161,"date":"2023-06-07T12:49:54","date_gmt":"2023-06-07T09:49:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/articles\/polack-history-professor-freed-after-15-days-in-jail\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","slug":"polack-history-professor-freed-after-15-days-in-jail","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/47161\/","title":{"rendered":"Po\u0142ack history professor freed after 15 days in jail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n <b>June 7, <span>BPN<\/span>. <\/b>Authorities have released Viktar \u010cara\u016dko, associate professor of history at Po\u0142ack State University (PSU), after he had served 15 days in jail, a local source told <span>BPN<\/span>, speaking on the condition of anonymity.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Police arrested him on May 23 in a large raid in Po\u0142ack, Viciebsk region, along with over a dozen PSU staff members for allegedly sharing opposition content.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Two days after the raid on the university, a judge in Po\u0142ack sent Alaksandr \u0160a\u016dco\u016d, a Greek Catholic priest, to jail for 15 days on similar charges.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Authorities freed jailed PSU lecturers Siarhiej H\u0142azyryn and Siarhiej Rykun on June 5 and their colleague Alena Chramcova, on June 2.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The crackdown on university staff came days after police arrested and jailed several doctors from the Navapo\u0142ack City Hospital following a leak about the hospitalization of former presidential hopeful Viktar Babaryka. Five of them were punished with jail terms.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t In late March, another series of arrests targeted local history museum workers.
