{"id":47186,"date":"2023-06-08T20:30:48","date_gmt":"2023-06-08T17:30:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/articles\/eu-stops-68-migrants-at-belarus-border\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","slug":"eu-stops-68-migrants-at-belarus-border","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/47186\/","title":{"rendered":"EU stops 68 migrants at Belarus border"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n <b>June 8,&nbsp;<span>BPN<\/span>.<\/b>&nbsp;The European Union has not allowed at least 68 migrants to enter illegally from Belarus over the past day.<\/p>\n<p>\t The Lithuanian State Border Guard Service&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/vsat.lrv.lt\/lt\/naujienos\/neileistu-neteisetu-migrantu-statistika\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">did not record<\/a>&nbsp;any illegal border crossings for three consecutive days but said their Latvian colleagues thwarted 12 attempts on June 7.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\t The Polish Border Guard&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Straz_Graniczna\/status\/1666692988385329152\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">said<\/a>&nbsp;that 56 foreigners, including nationals of Senegal and Comoro Islands tried to illegally cross the border from Belarus.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\t Since the start of 2023, the EU has recorded at least 16,293 attempts by illegal migrants to enter its territory from Belarus, with 11,327 attempts via Poland, 3,789 via Latvia and 1,177 via Lithuania. Illegal migrants attempted to cross the Belarus-EU border 774 times since the start of June.<\/p>\n<p>\t BPN\u2019s analysis of daily stats indicates growing tension on the Belarusian-EU border, with Poland being the prime target. Illegal border crossing attempts rose from 1,989 in January and 1,970 in February to 3,401 in March, 3,440 in April, and 4,719 in May.<\/p>\n<p>\t The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border dates back to the spring of 2021. It escalated on November 8, 2021, when thousands of migrants set up a camp near the Polish border. The Baltic states and Poland accused Belarusian authorities of creating the trouble, while the latter blamed it on the West.<\/p>\n<p>\t Migration figures had dropped significantly by the time Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, but have risen more recently.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t &nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>June 8,&nbsp;BPN.&nbsp;The European Union has not allowed at least 68 migrants to enter illegally from Belarus over the past day.
