{"id":47295,"date":"2023-06-17T19:47:00","date_gmt":"2023-06-17T16:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/articles\/at-least-seven-fired-from-polack-state-university\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","slug":"at-least-seven-fired-from-polack-state-university","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/47295\/","title":{"rendered":"At least seven fired from Po\u0142ack State University"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>June 17, <span>BPN.<\/span><\/b> A university in the northern Viciebsk region has fired at least seven staff members recently amid reprisals against academics, according to a local source.<\/p>\n<p> Po\u0142ack State University (PSU) Rector Juryj Ramano\u016dski dismissed lecturers Anastasija Mazho and \u015aviat\u0142ana Panima\u0161\u010danka, as well as secretaries Kaciaryna \u0160a\u016dluha and Ta\u0107ciana \u010carkasava.<\/p>\n<p> Previously, reports came through that PSU fired associate professors Viktar \u010cara\u016dko and Siarhiej H\u0142azyryn, who spent weeks in jail for disseminating &#8220;extremist&#8221; content. <\/p>\n<p> It also fired Juryj Kie\u017ea, a deputy dean at the engineering department who the source said had donated to opposition foundations. <\/p>\n<p> \u015aviat\u0142ana Nikolina, an executive at the sports department, filed a letter of resignation, according to the source.<\/p>\n<p> Reports suggest that reprisals in the Po\u0142ack area intensified this spring and involved citizens linked to Po\u0142ack\u2019s history and culture museum, Navapo\u0142ack Central City Hospital, academics, and a priest.<\/p>\n<p> Last week, six university deans asked PSU&#8217;s management to demote them to lower academic positions because they didn&#8217;t want to be complicit &#8220;in political reprisals against their colleagues.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>If arrests and dismissals continue, &#8220;you can&nbsp;basically shut down PSU,&#8221; the region&#8217;s leading university, because there will be no PhD holders left, the source said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>June 17, BPN.
