{"id":47532,"date":"2023-07-05T13:39:10","date_gmt":"2023-07-05T10:39:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/articles\/over-200-people-persecuted-on-political-grounds-in-june-rights-group\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","slug":"over-200-people-persecuted-on-political-grounds-in-june-rights-group","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/47532\/","title":{"rendered":"Over 200 people persecuted on political grounds in June \u2013 rights group"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n <b>July 5, <span>BPN<\/span>.<\/b> Belarusian authorities persecuted more than 200 people on political grounds in June, the Viasna Human Rights Center said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t At least 58 people, including 18 women, were convicted in criminal cases, it noted.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Human rights defenders recorded a surge in criminal persecution for donations to informal communities and initiatives that authorities deem extremist.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Four persons were convicted in absentia in June, the report says.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Last month, Belarusian courts sentenced 35 persons to a total of 255 years in prison; five people were given a total of 11.5 years of restricted freedom in open-type correctional facilities and a further 18, 41 years in home confinement.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Four people sentenced to prison terms were also fined a total of 144,300 rubels (over $47,500).
