{"id":47578,"date":"2023-07-08T13:23:16","date_gmt":"2023-07-08T10:23:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/articles\/illegal-belarus-eu-border-crossings-soar-to-233-in-24-hours\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:29:13","slug":"illegal-belarus-eu-border-crossings-soar-to-233-in-24-hours","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/47578\/","title":{"rendered":"Illegal Belarus-EU border crossings soar to 233 in 24 hours"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t<b>July 8, <span>BPN<\/span>.<\/b> The European Union (EU) has not allowed at least 233 migrants to enter illegally from Belarus over the past day.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The Lithuanian State Border Guard Service <a href=\"https:\/\/vsat.lrv.lt\/lt\/naujienos\/neileistu-neteisetu-migrantu-statistika\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">reported<\/a> that it foiled two attempts in the Lithuanian-Belarusian border area on July 7, while their Latvian colleagues thwarted 25 attempts.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The Polish Border Guard <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Straz_Graniczna\/status\/1677564882818932738\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">said<\/a> that 206 foreigners, including nationals of Afghanistan, Guinea, India, Iran, Cameroon, Marocco, Syria and Ethiopia, tried to illegally cross the border from Belarus.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Since the start of 2023, the EU has recorded at least 20,467 attempts by illegal migrants to enter its territory from Belarus, with 14,607 attempts via Poland, 4,593 via Latvia and 1,267 via Lithuania. Illegal migrants attempted to cross the Belarus-EU border 1,247 times since the start of July.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n <span>BPN<\/span>&#8216;s analysis of daily stats indicates growing tension at the Belarusian-EU border, with Poland being the prime target. Illegal border crossing attempts rose from 1,989 in January and 1,970 in February to 4,719 in May and 3,701 in June.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border dates back to the spring of 2021. It escalated on November 8, 2021, when thousands of migrants set up a camp near the Polish border. The Baltic states and Poland accused Belarusian authorities of creating the trouble, while the latter blamed it on the West.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Migration figures had dropped significantly by the time Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, but have risen more recently.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>July 8, BPN.
