{"id":47862,"date":"2023-11-07T20:32:32","date_gmt":"2023-11-07T17:32:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/?post_type=articles&#038;p=47862"},"modified":"2026-03-10T12:05:06","modified_gmt":"2026-03-10T12:05:06","slug":"ifrc-to-decide-on-belarusian-red-cross-membership-by-early-december","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/47862\/","title":{"rendered":"IFRC to decide on Belarusian Red Cross membership by December"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>November 7, <em>Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) will announce its decision on the membership of the Belarusian Red Cross (BRC) by December, Corrie Butler, the IFRC Communications Manager for Europe and Central Asia Corrie, has told <em>Pozirk<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;As noted in our statement issued earlier in October, we have given the BRC up to 30 November to make the decision to dismiss Mr. D\u017amitryj \u0160a\u016dco\u016d as the Secretary General,&#8221; she said. &#8221; If the BRC does not take the necessary actions to remove the current Secretary General, its membership rights will be suspended automatically on November 30, 2023.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On September 7, a Red Cross convention&nbsp;in Minsk unanimously reelected \u0160a\u016dco\u016d as secretary general for Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The IFRC demanded \u0160a\u016dco\u016d\u2019s dismissal less than a month later following the investigation of his activities. The demand stems from concerns about his visits to the Russian-occupied Ukrainian cities of Luhansk and Donetsk, his comments about the displacement of Ukrainian children, and related concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The investigation found that \u0160a\u016dco\u016d was &#8220;solely responsible for all the allegations: his actions were carried out alone and not with the agreement of the national society.&#8221; The IFRC board banned him from &#8220;holding any governance positions in the IFRC until further notice.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On October 6, the BRC said that it was &#8220;studying&#8221; the IFRC&#8217;s demand but did not remove \u0160a\u016dco\u016d from his position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Membership suspension means that the BRC may lose access to the IFRC funding.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>November 7, Pozirk.
