November 7, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> If Belarusians had broad international support in 2020 as they have now, “Belarus could already become a democratic country,” Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja has told MPs from parliamentary groups supporting democratic Belarus at their meeting in Berlin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MPs from Austria, France, Germany, Georgia, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Portugal and Spain attended the meeting in person, while MEPs and MPs from Ireland, the United States and Ukraine participated via the video link, her aide Franak Via\u010dorka told Pozirk<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Indeed, we have a strong international coalition of allies today,” Cichano\u016dskaja said, noting that For Democratic Belarus parliamentary groups exist in 22 countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Today, our common goal is to ensure that Belarusians don\u2019t miss the next historical chance to get out from the claws of the Russian empire,” she stressed. “I believe that, together, we can do it.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The very concept of democracy is under attack today,” the politician said. “And one of the main threats to democracy is Russian imperialism. It supports \u2013 and is supported by \u2013 dictators all over the world. Including [Alaksandar] \u0141uka\u0161enka.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cichanao\u016dskaja accused \u0141uka\u0161enka of “gradually selling Belarusian independence to Russia,” noting that Russian troops and nuclear weapons are deployed in Belarus. She urged the MPs to use their powers and “bring \u0141uka\u0161enka to account” and persecute his crimes under the universal jurisdiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
