The European Court of Justice (ECJ) in Luxembourg refused to lift sanctions against Bremino Group and its owners, Belarusian businessmen Mikalaj Varabiej and Alaksandar Zajca\u016d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ECJ rejected their appeals, ordering both businessmen to cover litigation fees. Its ruling stressed that Bremino Group co-managed the Bremino-Or\u0161a Special Economic Zone set up by Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and received state support along with financial, tax and other benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The court described Varabiej as one of the leading Belarusian businessmen with interests in petroleum, coal transit, banking and other sectors. His company, Bremino Group, &#8220;enjoyed tax breaks and other forms of support from the Belarusian administration&#8221; and is &#8220;benefitting from and supporting&#8221; Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka&#8217;s regime, it noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zajca\u016d&#8217;s appeal was heard separately. The court noted that the former assistant of \u0141uka\u0161enka&#8217;s son Viktar used his connections to the Belarusian ruler\u2019s family to obtain favorable contracts for businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zajca\u016d, Varabiej and Alaksiej Aleksin belong to a close circle of businessmen associated with \u0141uka\u0161enka, benefitting from close ties to him and his family, the court noted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>November 9, Pozirk.
