But how could it come into legal force if I was not taken to the appeal hearing and my lawyer was not summoned to the higher court? They considered the appeal in secret. What can you say?&#8221; Sudalenka commented, as quoted by the Viasna Human Rights Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said that if the committee recognizes the violation of his rights, it will be &#8220;an important legal classification of the actions of the Belarusian regime.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;These procedures allow us not to leave violations invisible for the country&#8217;s civil society and the international community,&#8221; he explained. &#8220;The human rights situation in Belarus should remain on the agenda and remind the community of the need for solidarity initiatives, support for prisoners and the persecuted and accountability of the Belarusian authorities.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sudalenka was arrested in January 2021. Authorities accused the human rights activist and his assistant Ta\u0107ciana \u0141asica of organizing civil unrest and training and financing protesters. Volunteer Maryja Tarasienka was charged with complicity in these alleged offenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tarasienka was released on personal recognizance and fled the country for fear of imprisonment.
