November 19, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The European Union (EU) has not allowed at least 74 migrants to enter illegally from Belarus over the past day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lithuanian State Border Guard Service registered<\/a> 33 border violations, while their Latvian colleagues thwarted 12 attempts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Polish Border Guard said<\/a> that 29 foreigners tried to illegally cross the border from Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of 2023, the EU has recorded at least 40,849 attempts by illegal migrants to enter its territory from Belarus, with 24,828 attempts via Poland, 13,559 via Latvia and 2,462 via Lithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pozirk<\/em>‘s analysis of daily stats indicated fluctuated but steady tension at the Belarusian-EU border throughout the year. Illegal border crossings peaked at 5,474 in October, exceeding the previous record high of 5,054 in July. In November, illegal migrants attempted to cross the Belarusian-EU border as many as 2,151 times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border dates back to the spring of 2021. It escalated in November 2021, with thousands of migrants setting up a camp near the Polish border. The Baltic states and Poland accused Belarusian authorities of creating the trouble, while the latter blamed it on the West.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Migration figures had dropped significantly by the time Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, but have risen more recently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On August 28, interior ministers of Poland and the Baltic States agreed to close their borders with Belarus in case of a surge in illegal migration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
