December 5, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> D\u017amitryj \u0160a\u016dco\u016d, secretary general of the Belarusian Red Cross, has said that the international Red Cross suspended it as a member for helping “the little kids of Donbas,” seemingly confirming the BRC’s presence in Russian-occupied territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Political claims against the BRC” have demonstrated the organization’s strength and “ability to work in the face of various challenges, not only humanitarian, but also political,” he said at the Best Volunteer 2023 event in Minsk, as quoted by TASS<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The international Red Cross has never financed the BRC’s projects for Belarusian citizens, he said. It focuses only on Ukrainian refugees and does not even help the migrants coming to Belarus from the Middle East, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“So we will certainly continue to help people, including migrants from Ukraine and other countries. But maybe not as much as before,” \u0160a\u016dco\u016d said. The BRC is already taking care of “just over 7,000 people who have arrived from Ukraine,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies suspended the Belarusian Red Cross as a member on December 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It explained that the BRC had failed to comply with its demand to dismiss the local secretary general.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The demand stemmed mainly from concerns about his vis\u00adits to the Russ\u00adian-occu\u00adpied Ukrainian cities of Luhan\u00adsk and Donet\u00adsk and his justification of the dis\u00adplace\u00adment of Ukrainian chil\u00addren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials in Minsk do not deny the transfers, but claim that they are organized for the benefit of the children and in agreement with their legal representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
