Belarus &#8220;needs a mass left-wing political party based on the values of freedom, equality, social justice, solidarity and democracy,&#8221; says an appeal by the organizing committee for a left-wing democratic party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are no political parties left in Belarus whose views differ from the current government&#8217;s positions and that could offer alternatives for society, it noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If registered, the new party will &#8220;defend the interests of the country and the people&#8221; while respecting &#8220;universally recognized principles of international law,&#8221; the appeal noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The organizing committee stressed its anti-war positions and defensive role of the army. It also announced that it will promote the new party\u2019s political platform, win over potential supporters across Belarus and prepare for the founding conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On December 9, leftist politicians in Minsk formed a committee to create a Marxist democratic party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The organizing committee is reportedly headed by Siarhiej Kalakin, the former leader of the outlawed Just World Party of the Left; Siarhiej Va\u017aniak, a former member of the Just World\u2019s central committee; and Alaksandar Buchvosta\u016d, the former chairman of the outlawed Belarusian Labor Party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Belarusian authorities dissolved 11 opposition, loyalist and defunct alliances this summer and fall after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka had called for disbanding parties whose activities run counter to &#8220;the basic principles of internal and foreign policy.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In mid-February, he signed a law requiring all parties to re-register based on more rigorous membership criteria. Re-registration was granted only to Bie\u0142aja Ru\u015b, a party of \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s supporters, the pro-government Communist Party of Belarus, Liberal Democratic Party and Republican Party of Labor and Justice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>December 11, Pozirk.
