December 12, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Ministry of Internal Affairs “is already calculating forces and means” to prevent the “destabilization of the situation” during the upcoming elections in February 2024, First Deputy Minister Juryj Nazaranka said today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Decisions on the protection of public order are being prepared,” he said during a meeting of the interior ministry’s leadership and personnel with Ihar Karpienka, chairman of the central election commission, the ministry’s press office reported.

Karpienka, in turn, thanked interior ministry officers for “assistance during the referendum in 2022,” when, in his opinion, “an effective system of cooperation was established and coordination was shown in supporting the work of the committees and protecting the rule of law.”

The official “highlighted the quick response to requests for information about candidates, as well as a serious approach to ensuring public order at polling stations.” “Equipping the polling stations we have selected with video surveillance systems” is one of the issues that require joint efforts with the interior ministry, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, elections for the House of Representatives and local councils will be held on the same day for the first time in Belarus. The single day of voting is scheduled for February 25. The first session of the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly in the new status will be held within 60 days.

According to the central election committee, 1,394 territorial and district election commissions with 9,459 members have been formed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the elections, voters will be banned from taking photos of the completed ballots and posting them on the Internet, both during early voting and on the election day. Violators will be punished under the Administrative Offenses Code.

During the 2020 presidential election, many voters photographed their ballots and uploaded them to the online platform Ho\u0142as to prove that the authorities manipulated the voting results in favor of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka.

The country has not held a single free and fair election according to the standards of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe since 1996.
