These individuals, just like many others, were convicted on the basis of false testimonies during staged trials, the results of which were known before they began,&#8221; he said, according to the Belarusian service of <em>Polskie Radio<\/em> (quotes rendered from Belarusian).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"block-image block-image-normal\">\n\n  <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"744\" height=\"496\" src=\"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/duda-744-12.12.2023.jpg\" class=\"attachment-full size-full\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/duda-744-12.12.2023.jpg 744w, https:\/\/pozirk.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/duda-744-12.12.2023-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 744px) 100vw, 744px\" \/>\n  <figcaption>\n      <div class=\"block-image__descr\">\n\n        Andrzej Duda at the summit \n    <\/div>\n  \n       <div class=\"block-image__author\">\n                <span>(Jakub Szymczuk, the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland)<\/span>\n    <\/div>\n     <\/figcaption>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Duda, there are &#8220;about 5,000 political prisoners&#8221; in Belarus today. &#8220;Among the political prisoners is journalist Andrej Pa\u010dobut [Andrzej Poczobut], a Belarusian citizen of Polish origin, sentenced to eight years in prison. Two Polish priests, Hienrych Aka\u0142atovi\u010d [Henryk Oko\u0142otowicz] and Via\u010das\u0142a\u016d Pialinak [Wiaczes\u0142aw Pialinak], were arrested in Belarus at the end of November.&#8221;<br><br>The international community, the Polish president said, &#8220;should strongly oppose this and condemn such shameful actions.&#8221;<br><br>&#8220;It is unbelievable that this is happening so close to the NATO-EU border, that torture chambers still exist in the 21st century in a country just outside our borders, and that there is no contact with the prisoners, as in the case of Andrej Pa\u010dobut. Even his closest relatives have not been able to contact him for a long time, and at the moment we do not know exactly what his fate is. There has been no communication for several months, and today we do not know whether he is alive or dead,&#8221; he said.<br><br>Official relations between Warsaw and Minsk have virtually frozen. Poland, like other democratic countries, condemned alleged fraud in the 2020 presidential election in Belarus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Migrants from Asia and Africa have been using Belarus as a route to enter the European Union, including Poland, illegally for more than two years, and Belarusian border guards do not stop them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Belarusian authorities criticize their neighbors for building a fence at the border, citing concerns about migrating animals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In protest against the prosecution of Pa\u010dobut, a Polish minority leader in Belarus, Poland has left only two border crossings open, one for trucks and one for cars. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than a dozen Polish memorials have been destroyed or desecrated in Belarus in the last two years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>December 12, Pozirk.
