December 13, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Five banks operating in Belarus have issued more than 60 guarantees for Russian government procurement contracts worth more than 1 billion Russian rubles (more than $11 million), Russia’s finance ministry reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In early December, seven financial institutions from Belarus were authorized to issue such guarantees, namely Alfa-Bank, Bank Dabrabyt, Bank BelVEB, Bank VTB (Belarus), Belarusbank, Belinvestbank, and MTBank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Banks involved in this project may issue electronic bank guarantees accepted at more than 350 Russian electronic procurement platforms, including eight federal ones, Alaksandar \u0160a\u016dko of the Belarusian central bank told its board in late July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 12, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin authorized Belarusian banks to issue independent guarantees in the Russian public procurement system on the same conditions as Russian banks. The project was expected to run until the end of 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A bank guarantee is an instrument of financial security in public procurement with issuers repaying government customers advance payments if sellers fail to fulfil the terms of the contract.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
