December 17, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Businesses operating in manufacturing and trade sectors are barely making profit because of their dependence on imports and price controls, said members of the Council for Entrepreneurship Development. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its members convened on December 13 in Minsk and agreed to draft proposals on flexible mechanisms for the formation of prices and retail markups to steady the economy and improve the investment climate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They admitted that price controls “contributed to lower inflation and significantly stabilized the situation in the consumer market,” according to the council’s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Headed by First Deputy Prime Minister Mika\u0142aj Snapko\u016d, the council is a permanent advisory body of the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus reported a 4.9 percent increase in consumer prices in January\u2013November. Food products rose by 5.2 percent; non-food products, by 2.8 percent; services, by 7.2 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government projected inflation of 7\u20138 percent for 2023. It expects prices and fees to rise no more than 6 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In October 2022, the government introduced profit margin caps to control prices for 370 commodity items, including food, clothing, footwear, furniture, textiles, vehicles and spare parts, construction materials and other goods.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
