October 16, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The final 15-day comprehensive tests at the Belarusian nuclear power plant’s Unit 2 were successful, Rosatom CEO Aleksey Likhachev has told Belarusian Prime Minister Raman Ha\u0142o\u016d\u010danka. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tests were conducted in close cooperation with the Belarusian nuclear agency as well as energy and emergencies ministries, the government’s Telegram channel said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rosatom will continue cooperation with Belarus and will treat its nuclear plant “as its own in terms of operation and fuel supply,” Likhachev said. It will offer Belarus “new technological solutions” to deal with nuclear waste, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Located near Astraviec, Hrodna region, some 10 miles off the Lithuanian border, the Belarusian nuclear plant has been designed by Russia’s Rosatom and built with a Russian loan. Lithuania views the plant as unsafe and describes it as a “geopolitical weapon.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unit 1 started pilot operation in November 2020, and commercial operation, in June 2021. On October 6, it was disconnected from the grid for maintenance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unit 2 has been operating at full capacity since September 29 when the 15-day equipment tests started. The construction of the nuclear plant will be considered complete as soon as the special commission approves the commercial operation of Unit 2.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
