In a police video, he admitted to participating in 2020 postelection protests and signing up for the opposition Pieramoha Plan. The video also featured a gas mask and presumed airsoft equipment. The exact charges against him are unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last week, at least seven people were arrested in the Mahilo\u016d region&#8217;s \u010ceryka\u016d, Horki and Drybin districts, MAYDAY.TEAM reported. Human rights defenders say arrests may be linked to opposition content found in their smart phones. Three people were fined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alaksiej Baciuko\u016d, a Mahilo\u016d-based blogger and journalist, may be under arrest, the Belarusian Association of Journalists reported. The Committee for State Security (KGB) agents searched his apartment and interrogated him on December 5, his friends said. His whereabouts have remained unknown since then. He called one of his exiled friends twice after his arrest as agents used him to find out about escape routes from Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police also arrested Vadzim \u010cara\u016dko, founder of aOrion and United Vehicle Robotics, for alleged participation in protests, a pro-government Telegram channel said. One of his companies manufactures professional UAVs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trials<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alaksandar Stelmach, Michai\u0142 Ana\u0161kin, Alaksandar Ho\u0142ub, Me\u010dys\u0142a\u016d A\u0161mian and Dzianis \u0160urpo were tried in the Hrodna region on charges of sharing opposition content, a Telegram channel monitoring politically-motivated persecution in Hrodna and the Hrodna region reported. The verdicts are unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Criminal proceedings<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alaksiej Navahrodski went on trial in Hrodna on charges of high treason, the <em>Sudy, Zaderzhaniya. Grodno i Oblast <\/em>Telegram channel said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other instances of persecution<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Belarusian national Siarhiej Jeramije\u016d arrested on suspicion of blowing up two trains on the Baikal-Amur Mainline in Russia was transferred to Ulan-Ude on December 13, the <em>Zona Solidarnosti<\/em> Telegram channel said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police searched the countryside home of exiled politician Alaksandar Milinkievi\u010d who ran for president in 2006, <em>Pozirk<\/em> reported. Authorities sealed the entrance doors to the house in Bier\u0161ty, Hrodna region, but have not informed Milinkievi\u010d about the reasons for the search or any charges against him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities placed jailed D\u017amitryj Su\u0161\u010dyk in a punishment cell following his transfer to Penal Colony No 8 in Or\u0161a, Viciebsk region, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported. He was due to be released in August after serving 18 months in prison in a politically-motivated case but was given another prison term for allegedly disobeying prison administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inmates at the women&#8217;s prison in Homiel have been suffering from cold temperatures on the premises due to a defective heating system, MAYDAY.TEAM said citing their family members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of December 19, human rights defenders identified at least 1,464 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.
