December 19, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarus’ Deputy Energy Minister Michai\u0142 Michadziuk has hit back at Bloomberg by calling its report on the country’s nuclear power plant an attempt to “discredit our warm relations with our older brother, the Russian Federation.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2022, engineers preparing to connect the Astraviec Nuclear Power Plant’s new reactor to the grid discovered a problem that prompted Rosatom to postpone the unit’s launch, Bloomberg reported yesterday, citing internal documents of the Russian nuclear corporation. Belarus has become a testing ground for a new reactor design that Rosatom is exporting around the world, the global media company said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“They are taking out of context individual work moments that were present during construction and are trying to present them as some kind of disaster. There is no disaster. We are not enemies to ourselves or to neighboring countries. We are aware of our responsibility to our children, grandchildren, and future generations,” Michadziuk said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier today, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also denied that the seeping of resin into the primary circuit reported by Bloomberg was an emergency situation, arguing that it happened during pre-commissioning work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Located near Astraviec, Hrodna region, some 10 miles off the Lithuanian border, the Belarusian NPP has been designed by Russia and built with a Russian loan. Lithuania views the plant as unsafe and describes it as a “geopolitical weapon.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
