{"id":57346,"date":"2023-12-24T22:52:22","date_gmt":"2023-12-24T19:52:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/?post_type=articles&#038;p=57346"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:40:57","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:40:57","slug":"eu-stops-13-illegal-migrants-at-belarus-border","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/57346\/","title":{"rendered":"EU stops 13 illegal migrants at Belarus border"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>December 24, <em>Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The European Union (EU) has not allowed at least 13 migrants to enter illegally from Belarus over the past day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lithuanian State Border Guard Service registered zero border violations while their Latvian colleagues thwarted four illegal border crossing attempts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Polish Border Guard registered nine border violations on December 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the start of 2023, the EU has recorded at least 41,868 attempts by illegal migrants to enter its territory from Belarus, with 25,418 attempts via Poland, 13,863 via Latvia and 2,587 via Lithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Pozirk<\/em>&#8216;s analysis of daily stats indicated fluctuated but steady tension at the Belarusian-EU border throughout the year. Illegal border crossings peaked at 5,474 in October, exceeding the previous record high of 5,054 in July. In December, illegal migrant flows decreased as border guards registered 516 attempts to cross the Belarusian-EU border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border started in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent migrants from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU. It escalated in November 2021, with hundreds of migrants storming the Polish border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Baltic states and Poland accused Belarusian authorities of creating the trouble, while the latter blamed it on the West.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On August 28, the interior ministers of Poland and the Baltic States warned that they would close the border with Belarus in case of a surge in illegal migration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>December 24, Pozirk.
