{"id":58291,"date":"2023-12-29T21:33:18","date_gmt":"2023-12-29T18:33:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/?post_type=articles&#038;p=58291"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:40:57","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:40:57","slug":"human-rights-groups-declare-14-political-prisoners","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/58291\/","title":{"rendered":"Human rights groups declare 14 political prisoners"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"block-image block-image-normal\">\n\n  <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"744\" height=\"496\" src=\"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/prison_unsplash_744x496-1.jpg\" class=\"attachment-full size-full\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/prison_unsplash_744x496-1.jpg 744w, https:\/\/pozirk.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/prison_unsplash_744x496-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 744px) 100vw, 744px\" \/>\n  <figcaption>\n  \n       <div class=\"block-image__author\">\n                <span>(Unsplash.com \/ Ye Jinghan)<\/span>\n    <\/div>\n     <\/figcaption>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>December 29, <em>Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusian human rights organizations have declared 14 more people political prisoners in a statement released by the Viasna Human Rights Center.<br><br>The organizations granted this status to:<br><br><strong>Viktar Mielecha\u016d<\/strong>, sentenced to 2.5 years in prison under Article 369 (insulting a state servant) and Article 328 Part 1 (illegal trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances) of the Criminal Code;<br><br><strong>Iryna Sanko\u016dskaja<\/strong>, sentenced to 1.5 years in prison under Article 368 (insulting the head of state), Article 369 and Article 370 (desecration of state symbols) of the Criminal Code;<br><br><strong>Juryj \u0160\u010darbak<\/strong>, sentenced to 1.5 years in prison under Article 367 (defaming the head of state) and Article 368 of the Criminal Code;<br><br><strong>U\u0142adzimir \u0141ukjan\u010duk<\/strong>, sentenced to one year in prison under Article 368 of the Criminal Code;<br><br><strong>Alaksandar Masievi\u010d<\/strong>, sentenced to an unknown term of imprisonment under Article 361 (calls for restrictive measures (sanctions) or other actions aimed at undermining the national security of Belarus), Article 361-4 (supporting extremist activities), Article 367 and Article 368 of the Criminal Code;<br><br><strong>Pavie\u0142 Niadzielin<\/strong>, sentenced to an unknown term of imprisonment under arts 368, 369 and 391 (insulting a judge or a lay judge) of the Criminal Code;<br><br><strong>Andrej Ale\u0161\u010dyk<\/strong>, sentenced to an unknown term of imprisonment under arts 367 and 368 of the Criminal Code;<br><br><strong>Maksim Kronda<\/strong>, sentenced to an unknown term of imprisonment under Article 368 of the Criminal Code;<br><br><strong>Pavie\u0142 Pa\u0161ukievi\u010d<\/strong>, sentenced to an unknown term of imprisonment under Article 367 of the Criminal Code;<br><br><strong>U\u0142adzimir Husie\u016d<\/strong>, sentenced to two years in an open-type corrective institution under Article 369 of the Criminal Code;<br><br><strong>D\u017amitryj Kazako\u016d<\/strong>, sentenced to an open-type corrective institution for an unknown period under arts 368 and 369 of the Criminal Code;<br><br><strong>Illa Kurapatkin<\/strong>, sentenced to an open-type corrective institution for an unknown period under Article 368 of the Criminal Code;<br><br><strong>Hanna Stra\u017eevi\u010d<\/strong>, taken into custody under arts 368 and 369 of the Criminal Code;<br><br><strong>Juryj Alchavik<\/strong>, taken into custody under Article 361 of the Criminal Code.<br><br>The groups demanded that the authorities immediately release all political prisoners and stop reprisals.<br><br>Besides Viasna, the statement was signed by the Belarusian Helsinki Committee, Barys Zvozska\u016d Human Rights House, Office for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Pravavaja Inicyjatyva, Human Constanta, and Lawtrend.<br><br>As of this evening, human rights activists have identified at least 1,441 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.
