September 14,\u00a0Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0The president of the Belarusian National Olympic Committee (NOC) has said that his agency\u00a0is in contact with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and other sports bodies to have\u00a0restrictions lifted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian athletes face sanctions, which were imposed over the government’s involvement in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Viktar \u0141uka\u0161enka, the oldest son of Belarusian ruler Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, spoke at a meeting of the Athletes’ Commissions of Belarus and Russia in Moscow, according to the NOC press office. He said that the sanctions were “unpleasant” and “unfair” but that Belarus could host high-level tournaments despite them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The IOC recommended in February 2022 that international sports federations not allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to compete. In March 2023, it said that individual neutral athletes could participate on condition that they had not supported the hostilities and had no ties with the security and military sectors of their countries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
