Alaksandar Azara\u016d, U\u0142adzimir \u017dyhar, Maciej Kuprej\u010dyk, Ihar \u0141oban, Andrej Astapovi\u010d and Aleh Taler\u010dyk face 11 criminal charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other instances of persecution<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2023, authorities persecuted at least 2,791 people for sharing opposition content, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The PanProfesor Polish language school announced on Facebook its plans to close its Belarusian branch over pressure from the police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of January 8, human rights defenders identified at least 1,427 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.
