She may be accused of sharing opposition content. The trial date is unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minsk police arrested Alaksandar Majsiejenka, an employee of an electrical equipment factory, for alleged participation in 2020 protests, <em>Mediazona<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities released social-democratic activist Stanis\u0142a\u016d Ma\u010da\u0142a\u016d, after he had served three years in prison on charges widely seen as politically-motivated, the outlawed Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada) reported on Telegram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trials<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A judge in \u010ceryka\u016d, Mahilo\u016d region, jailed Protestant pastor and a Hramada member Raman Ra\u017edziestvienski for 14 days, the party&#8217;s Telegram channel said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Russian national Dmitry Cherkovsky was jailed for seven days in Viciebsk on December 28 for allegedly sharing opposition content, the Viciebsk branch of the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Criminal proceedings<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On December 14, a judge in Minsk sentenced businessman Kanstancin Vasilenka to two years of restricted freedom in home confinement for participating in a 2020 protest rally, Viasna said. Siarhiej Al\u0161uk, Alaksiej Asip\u010duk, Ludmi\u0142a Kalada and Alena Lipik were given two and a half years of restricted freedom on similar charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Homiel Regional Court resumed the hearing in a case against Aleh Kacapa\u016d, former head of the Homiel branch of Ta\u0142aka, a historical and cultural group, Viasna reported. Authorities persecute him on charges of inciting hatred, promoting extremism and insulting Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka. He has been on trial since November 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vadzim Bo\u016dfal, Mika\u0142aj Raspopa\u016d, Pavie\u0142 A\u017eacho\u016dski, Vac\u0142a\u016d Ani\u015bka, Valeryj H\u0142adnicki, Mika\u0142aj Liapie\u0161ka, Siarhiej Zielanko\u016d, Maksim Darnejka, Pavie\u0142 Plu\u0161\u010de\u016dski and U\u0142adzimir Apanovi\u010d will go on trial on January 11 in Va\u016dkavysk, Hrodna region, Viasna said. The ten men are accused of participating in protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Siarhiej Hranik, head of the military-historical museum Drahi\u010dyn, Brest region, will soon go on trial on charges of illegal handling of firearms, the Brest branch of Viasna said. In November, police reportedly found a &#8220;a century old&#8221; cartridge during a search of his home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Extremist&#8221; list update<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The interior ministry said it declared the <em>Baranovichi 97%<\/em> online community an extremist group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other blacklisted content includes <em>Rossiya Eto Zlo<\/em>, a Belarusian-Georgian-Ukrainian chat on Telegram, <em>FREEINFOBEL<\/em>, the <em>Borisov Life News<\/em> Instagram account, the <em>luka.zone<\/em> VKontakte page, <em>1regby<\/em> on X formerly known as Twitter, as well as <em>Ekstrym-Bel-TV<\/em> and <em>es 97bye3<\/em> on TikTok, the information ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other instances of persecution<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Buromedia.io<\/em>, an investigative online project said that Belarus blocked access to the website after the publication of an article about the Belarusian Red Cross. Belarusian users can still access it via VPN.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of January 10, human rights defenders identified at least 1,420 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.
