January 10, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> At least 336 non-governmental organizations, such as associations, trade unions and foundations, were dissolved in Belarus last year, Lawtrend said in a report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No less than 1,509 NGOs have been disbanded since the 2020 presidential election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the end of December, at least 960 NGOs were in the process of forced dissolution, based on ongoing litigation and removals from the state register of legal entities and sole proprietors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The number of organizations that decided to dissolve themselves also increased, from 416 in December 2022 to 549 in December 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crackdown on civil society also affected Poles and other ethnic minorities. After the scale of dissolutions increased in 2021, only two Polish ethnic, cultural, or educational NGOs remain in the country: the Polish Community and the pro-government Union of Poles in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least four Lithuanian ethnic NGOs were forced to dissolve in 2021-2023, and another four dissolved on their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government also closed the Armenian organization Urartu, the Brest Regional Jewish Union Aliyah, the Po\u0142ack Jewish Cultural Center, a Jewish educational program, and the German House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
