January 12, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Belarusian Red Cross (RBC) has announced the suspension of financial aid to refugees, asylum seekers, forced migrants, and stateless persons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The BRC said the move was due to a breakdown in cooperation with its partners who oversaw refugee projects in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nevertheless, refugees will continue to receive humanitarian aid, such as hygiene products, clothing, and shoes, it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On January 5, Buro Media<\/em> reported that the BRC had lost about 4.42 million rubels (some $1.35 million at the current exchange rate) in funding after the international Red Cross suspended it as a member on December 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies said the BRC had failed to comply with its demand to dismiss the local secretary general, D\u017amitryj \u0160a\u016dco\u016d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The demand stemmed mainly from concerns about his vis\u00adits to the Russ\u00adian-occu\u00adpied Ukrainian cities of Luhan\u00adsk and Donet\u00adsk and his justification of the dis\u00adplace\u00adment of Ukrainian chil\u00addren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials in Minsk do not deny the transfers of Ukrainian children to Belarus, but claim that they are organized for the benefit of the children and in agreement with their legal representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Human rights activists say the practice may constitute a war crime, expressing concern about children\u2019s indoctrination in Belarus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
