January 19, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Ministry of Internal Affairs has added 37 people to the list of persons “involved in extremist activity,” bringing the total to 3,723.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the ministry’s website, the list includes musicians D\u017amitryj Ha\u0142ava\u010d, Ja\u016dhien Bur\u0142o, and Andrej Jarem\u010dyk from The Tor Band (Raha\u010do\u016d, Homiel region), whose appeals the Supreme Court rejected yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The musicians were found guilty of inciting hatred, forming an extremist group, discrediting the Republic of Belarus, and insulting its authoritarian ruler, and sentenced to seven and a half \u2013 nine years in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ministry also blacklisted \u015aviat\u0142ana \u0141upa\u010d, the daughter of journalist \u0179micier \u0141upa\u010d. He fled Belarus in July 2021, and she faced charges of organizing and participating in public disorder in connection with peaceful protests against fraud in the 2020 presidential election. The sentence is unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The list also includes \u017danna Vo\u0142kava, the mother of two minors whom human rights activists call a political prisoner. In October 2023, the Homiel Regional Court sentenced her to three years in prison for insulting the head of state, inciting hatred, and other alleged crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another designation is Alaksandar Barano\u016dski, also a political prisoner. The Mahilo\u016d Regional Court sentenced him to five years on charges of extremism funding and involvement in a foreign armed conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Political prisoner Piotar Jarma\u0161uk was sentenced to four years in November over extremism funding and malicious software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Political prisoner D\u017amitryj Ilukovi\u010d was sentenced to one year and eight months. In October, a district court in Minsk found him guilty of insulting a state servant and the head of state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The law demands that authorities monitor the financial transactions of individuals on the extremism list to prevent money laundering and extremism funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those blacklisted cannot be teachers, publishers, or public servants for years after their convictions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
